A Houston Tex-Mex restaurant that opened its doors back in 1996 is making a move to a new location. Juarez Mexican Restaurant will shut its doors at 2545 Gessner Rd. and move into new construction about a mile away at 4145 Gessner Rd. in early 2023.

Jose Mendoza, owner of Juarez Mexican Restaurant, told What Now Houston the new space will include a complete buildout. Mendoza said they are dealing with equipment and labor shortages, but he hopes to move into the new space in January or February of 2023 without disrupting service. “I hope we don’t close down for very long. I’m thinking the longest, if we have to, will be two weeks.”

The new location will include a bar and patio. “We’re offering that to all our regulars, to new clients, to anyone who wants to come eat,” Mendoza said. Mendoza has been learning how to run a bar for the past three years. “I’m overwhelmed, and it’s new. We’ve never had a bar,” he said. “Everyone’s excited. All our customers that come in, they’re excited.”

The Tex-Mex restaurant offers a variety of menu options. “Our number one item is our street tacos, and we have stuffed avocados to ribs to fajitas to enchiladas,” Mendoza said. You can enjoy a number of appetizers including chile con queso or nachos with your favorite margarita, beer, or wine.

As they prepare for the move, Juarez Mexican Restaurant will continue to serve its customers some of their favorite Tex-Mex offerings. “I hope everybody is excited as much as I am.”
