It’s just across the street, but the new space will provide new options for customers.

A meat market that has been serving fresh meats and hot, affordable meals in the Baytown community for decades is moving into a new space—right across the street! A new building currently under construction at 6010 W. Cedar Bayou Lynchburg Rd. in Baytown will serve as Daniel’s Meat Market and Restaurant’s new home.

“We love our current building because it does have a lot of history with our town and with Daniel’s, obviously, but it’s just time for us to really have a more state-of-the-art facility,” said Dena Adcox, who serves as an administrative professional and oversees the daily operations at the family-owned restaurant.  “Something that people can come in and go, ‘Hey, these are all of the things I’m used to tasting. This is the environment I’m used to seeing, but I have many more options,’” Adcox explained.

Daniel’s is currently located at 1402 N. Market Loop in Baytown and is expected to move across the street sometime in mid-spring of 2023. “We’re very excited. We can’t wait.” The move won’t disrupt operations at the current space. If all goes according to plan, Daniel’s will close down operations Saturday night and then reopen in the new space on Monday sometime next year.

The Adcox family also owns a catering company, so a few weeks before the move, the catering company will work out of the new kitchen to solve any potential issues. “It will be pretty seamless.”

George Daniel first opened the restaurant as a meat market in 1963 and eventually added sandwiches and hot plates to the menu. When Daniel passed away, the meat market and restaurant was passed down to his son, Jimmy, who expanded the menu.

Adcox told What Now Houston that Jack Adcox later purchased the restaurant from Jimmy, who was his close friend. “Jack didn’t want to see it close down just because there wasn’t anyone in the family to pass it to,” she explained. “We have been making small improvements just trying to bring it into the modern day.”

Daniel’s serves barbecue and other options cafeteria-style. “You can go down the line and pick what meat, what sides. All our sides are homecooked. You can order family-style if you’d like to take it home.”

Daniel’s will add more homecooked entrees, more types of meat, and more sides once in the new space. Raw meats such as steak, ribs, stuffed pork loin, and in-house boudin and sausages are currently available, and they plan to expand their raw meat options once at the new facility. They will also offer jerky and more unique meats.

“Eventually our concept is going to become farm to table. Our family also owns a farm. Right now, we are dabbling into what types of meats we are going to raise,” Adcox said. Another welcomed addition in the new space will be deer processing. “We’ll have an entire area dedicated just to deer processing for people’s specific hunts. We will actually be raising and processing our own deer,” she explained.

They intend to keep Daniel’s current location and possibly open another business in the historic space in coming years.
