An ice cream sandwich concept based in California is planning a new location in Webster. The Baked Bear could open sometime this October or November at 18205 Egret Bay Blvd. The space previously served as a retail office, so it will require some renovations before The Baked Bear will open to the public.
“We bake fresh cookies, and we also make our own ice cream. You can come in and buy cookies or come in and buy ice cream, or you can get both. We actually make ice cream sandwiches,” said Jim Wang, The Baked Bear franchisee.
The Baked Bear menu also features brownies, which can be made into ice cream sandwiches. “We actually make the ice cream sandwich, and we put it in this machine where it warms up the cookie but keeps the ice cream cold. So, when you bite into it, you get this hot on the outside and cold in the middle flavor, which is really, really good,” Wang told What Now Houston.
You could also have your ice cream sandwich rolled in different toppings. “It has a little bit of everything for everyone.”
Wang’s go-to ice cream sandwich is mint chocolate chip ice cream between two brownies, which are made from Ghirardelli brand brownie mix. Each month, The Baked Bear also offers a cookie of the month.
This will be Wang’s first location, but he owns other restaurants including JINYA Ramen Bars and is a partner with the Gen Korean BBQ concept. “We’re actually putting this Big Bear right next to two of our restaurant concepts, so it’s a good mix, a complement to each other.”
Wang first signed up for The Baked Bear concept about three years ago to develop in Houston, but COVID hit and put things on hold. His first location will open in Webster, and Wang plans to open others in Midtown and The Heights.
