One of The Original Carrabba’s in Houston will soon undergo some renovations. President of Johnny Carrabba Family of Restaurants Hieu Hguyen told What Now Houston it’s been about 10 years since they rebuilt The Original Carrabba’s at 3115 Kirby Dr. in Houston and opened in 2012. “It’s about time for a little bit of freshening up and updating.”

Two dining areas that can serve as private rooms for events will be renovated. The outdoor patio will be enhanced and made more comfortable. The patio renovations will include the removal of columns, which will make room for additional tables.

“We anticipate starting sometime in January or February because we just started the permitting process. This project will probably take four to six months,” Nguyen explained. The space that is under renovations will be walled off, so it will affect operations only in the number of tables available for diners. “We’ve got a great team, and they’re going to do a great job.”

The Original Carrabba’s first opened in Houston in 1986, and a second location was later added on Voss. The Original Carrabba’s will celebrate its 36-year anniversary this December. “We have employees who have been with us since day one,” Nguyen said.

“We are a scratch kitchen. We make all of our own fresh-cut mozzarella daily. We grind and make all of our own Mr. C’s Italian sausage. We make all of our fresh pasta,” Nguyen said. The menu features a variety of pastas, pizzas, steaks and chops, desserts, and other specialties.

The Johnny Carrabba Family of Restaurants operates other concepts in the area including Mia’s Table and Grace’s. Nguyen said they opened Mia’s in Cypress just over a year ago and currently don’t have plans for any further expansion at this time.
