A third Red River Cantina is in the works. The latest addition to the brand will open in new construction at 19220 W. Bellfort St. in Richmond, next to Spec’s Wine, Spirits & Finer Foods. The nearly 11,000-square-foot restaurant could open in April or May of 2023.

The original Red River Cantina opened in League City back in 2019 near Red River Bar-B-Que and Grill. The Richmond Red River Cantina will be modeled after the League City location.

“The bar will be identical. There will be some tweaks here and there, but for the most part, the layout is the same. The outside of the building will be a little different,” said Jimmy Molina, Director of Operations at Red Cantina Restaurants.

Earlier this year, Red River Cantina opened a second location in Mont Belvieu because they felt the area was growing. “It’s kind of the same philosophy over there in Richmond. There’s a lot of development going out there. There’s still a lot of homes being built. We feel like it’s a growing area, and we feel like we can thrive out there,” Molina told What Now Houston.

The Red River Cantina menu features a variety of Tex-Mex dishes, fajitas, and margaritas. You can get nachos, quesadillas, enchiladas, salads, tacos, burritos, and more. You could try a flight of handcrafted margaritas or just pick one to enjoy. Other cocktails on the menu include the Ruby Red River Mule or a Godiva Chocolate Martini.

“We’ll see how successful we can make this one. There’s really no limit or goal on how many restaurants we can open, but if everything keeps going good, we’ll keep opening restaurants,” Molina said.

Kevin and Ric Kiersh, great grandsons of Maximina “Momie” Machaen Groce, own Red River Cantina. The story says Groce, who was born in Mexico, fled with her husband Leonard Courtney Groce and their children to League City during the Mexican Revolution. The Groce and Kiersh families enjoyed her recipes over the years. Kevin and Ric Kiersh opened Red River Cantina to celebrate their family heritage, according to the Red River Cantina website.
