The Culinary Khancepts brand Star Cinema Grill is overseeing the development. Vice President of Development Jason Ostrow told What Now Houston more information about the restaurant would be released sometime this fall, possibly in October.

The theater, built in 1939, shuttered its doors in March of 2021. According to a state project filing, the theater will receive new finishes and a connection to the adjacent space that will house Leo Restaurant. The theater’s Art Deco design and history will be preserved during renovations.

The River Oaks Theater website states that once the theater reopens, movie goers will find an enhanced cinema experience along with high-quality food and beverages. The theater will continue to celebrate the beauty and power of film. “Paying homage to the theater’s rich history, we will feature cinema events such as The Rocky Horror Picture Show and host various film festivals, ensuring that film lovers can enjoy their movie experiences within this important cinematic gem.”
