A beacon of West African cuisine, ChopnBlok, is poised to open its first brick-and-mortar location at 507 Westheimer Rd. ChopnBlok‘s journey began in 2017 with a concept birth, followed by a pop-up debut in 2018. Its success at the Post in 2021 marked a pivotal moment. Amosu’s vision of transitioning from a 7-day pop-up to a permanent operation is now coming to fruition.

The ideal location for ChopnBlok’s newest home has been under Amosu’s eye for about a year while making preparations for the eventual expansion. While the Westheimer location may be in the works, its stand fans can rest assured it will remain in operation as well. The goal for the brand is to have as many flag posts as possible. “Our mission is to share the beauty of West African culture through foods that reshape society’s daily routine,” Amosu told What Now Houston.

With more space comes an expanded menu. ChopnBlok will offer more signature pairings, like its unique and popular rice dishes, an array of salad options, and a “cool” beverage program including a 0 proof offering. A highlight will be the return of ‘Brunch After Dark,’ a popular series from their pop-up days, featuring items like coconut fried chicken and Nigerian egg sauce.

Summer 2024 is the opening time frame provided all goes to plan, so Houstonians don’t have long to wait before getting to immerse themselves into a West African dining experience right in the heart of the Bayou City’s bustling culinary scene.
